Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College, Kottayam, Kerala had organized various programs across the district on National Public Health Dentistry week from 19.06.2022 to 25.06. 2022. Dr Vivek Narayan, Assistant Professor from Department of Public Health Dentistry had given a radio talk to highlight the discipline of Public Health Dentistry at 91.2 radio Mangalam, Ettumanoor on 25.06.2022. Smile contest had been conducted in St Luigi English Medium school & Mount Carmel English Medium School, Kanjikuzhy, Kottayam district in association with IAPHD, Kerala Chapter. Oral Health awareness program & Screening camp was done at Government Girls High School, Ettumanoor. Thirty Health Education videos prepared by Final year undergraduate students in local language as part of the department project was displayed for public awareness

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, MMCDS&R, conducted a Dental Check- up & Health Education camp on 23/06/2022 from 9:30 AM onwards in Child Care Institute Radha Krishan Bal Ashram, Naraingarh , Ambala. The team was headed by Dr. Hidayathulla Shaikh (Professor).The PG Student along with the interns of the department participated in the program under the guidance of Dr. GM Sogi, Principal, MMCDS&R. All the Children & Staff members of the ashram were screened & Dr. Hidayathulla Shaikh & Dr. Angshumala Provided Oral Health Education.

    9. Webinar on 24th June 2022


    A webinar on ”Scope of Public Health Dentistry” was conducted in M. M. College of Dental Sciences & Research, Mullana, Ambala, Haryana. The highlights were to raise the awareness and scope about the Public Health Dentistry Specialty among Interns and Under Graduate Dental Students. To explain various avenues, they have after completing their degree. To discuss numerous portals, they can get involved and different job opportunities they have after completing Public Health Dentistry Post Graduation.

    Center: Sardar Patel Post Graduate of Dental and Medical Sciences



    On this occasion, a month activities was organized from 21st May 2022- 21st June 2022 by the department of Public Health Dentistry, Sardar Patel Post Graduate Institute of Dental and Medical Sciences in order to create awareness regarding the importance of oral health among the individuals in the different Zones of Lucknow City. “Outreach activities” were conducted in different strata of the population, including Male Jail Camp among prisors, village camp with the collaboration of “Dhruvan Foundation” among adult population; with the collaboration of world vision(NGO) at A P Sen Academic Girls College among Slum population; village camp among adult population; golf club among the employees of golf club; with the collaboration of world vision(NGO) at A P Sen Academic Girls College among Slum population; with the collaboration of Sewa Bharti Sansthan among special group. Screening; oral hygiene maintenance through proper brushing technique; Tobacco cessation counseling; and oral health education via pamphlet distribution as shown in a newspaper (Spast awaz, Awadhnama, and Swatantra Bharat, Nav Bharat times, Sahara, JK 24/7 news); and referrals for subsequent dental treatment. Some events were organized: E-poster and Slogan, E-Essay under the flagship of Respected Principal Dr. Gaurav Singh and guided by Dr. B.S.     On occasion of National Public Health Dentistry Day, 2022 which has been celebrated as Public Health Dentistry Week from 19th-25th June, Department of Public Health dentistry, KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences has organized the following events prior to the dates mentioned above (19th-25th June) due to Non availability of staff and exams which were scheduled during the Public Health Dentistry Week.

    Healthy Smile competition for school children at Lovedale Central School, Belagavi. Oral Health education was given with emphasis on 5 golden rules to improve oral hygiene. A total of 160 children were benefitted from camp. Healthy smile was judged on the following criteria i.e., no decay, no gum inflammation and presence of well aligned teeth and prizes were distributed for the same.

    Health Education and Screening camp was organized at Government Higher Primary School, Kakati, Belagavi.919 Students were benefitted by this camp and speech was given on oral hygiene measures followed by correct brushing technique.

    Oral Health Education and Screening Camp at Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre Belagavi was conducted. Health Education was given regarding oral hygiene measures and total of 291 patients were benefitted from the camp.

    Short film was made at the Regimental centre highlighting the importance of oral health and management of traumatic injuries.

    Oral Health Education and Screening camp was organized for transgender group of population. Health Education was given with emphasis on correct brushing technique. They were also given Colgate tooth paste labelled with brushing technique at the end of the program. Total of 180 patients were benefitted.

    Center: Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research, Kollam, Kerala



    As a part of National Public Health Dentistry Day (June 19th ), various awareness programmes were conducted by the department of Public Health Dentistry of Azeezia Dental College from 19th to 25th to raise awareness regarding the importance of oral health.

    On 22nd of June, 2022 an oral screening camp was conducted at Kaithakuzhy Government LPS. The camp started at 10 am with a health education class by Dr. Ann Mariam Alex, for the school students. The students were enlightened about the importance of dental care, ways to improve oral health, about the brushing techniques and also about the healthy and unhealthy snacks. A drawing competition was conducted for the third and fourth standard students and prizes were distributed by Dr. Aarathi Vijayan, Reader and HOD. Dr. Saira Siraj. E, Senior lecturer and interns of the department participated in the camp. The camp concluded at 1pm.

    On 25th June, 2022 a rally was conducted as a part of the drug abuse day by Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with National Service Scheme (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3) and with Student Police Cadets of SMHSS, Kottara. The rally commenced at 10:00 am. It was flagged off by The Sub Inspector of Police, Pooyapally. Rally was from Society Junction to Meeyannoor junction and it aimed at creating awareness about the ill-effects of drug usage among public with the help of placards and slogans. The rally was accompanied by Dr. Saira Siraj, Dr. Naveen Jacob Varghese, interns and undergraduates. An inaugural function was held at the Meyanoor junction. The Sub Inspector of Police, Pooyapally inaugurated the meeting. Felicitation speech was given by Senior officer of the Excise department and Dr. Naveen Jacob Varghese, Senior lecturer. Distribution of brochures in the nearby shops and among public was inaugurated by the excise officer. The vote of thanks was given by Dr Ann Mariam Alex. The programme concluded at 11am.

    A smile competition, health education and dental screening camp for children as a part of National Public Health Dentistry Day was conducted for the students of Rose Dale Public School.

    All these events helped to spread awareness about oral health as an important part of our well being through community efforts.

This is to notify that a dental screening camp was conducted in association with Dabur India Ltd, in which 193 school students studying at Govt. Middle School, Kishanpura were screened for oral hygiene practices. Free toothpastes samples provided by Dabur India were distributed among school students. Oral health promotion and maintenance of healthy oral hygiene was emphasized to school students. The Dental College extended gratitude to the School principal and Dabur India in supporting the dental camp. We have enlisted the details of dental camp with photographs.

  Public Health Dentistry Day Top

Saraswati Dental College, Lucknow with Department of Public Health Dentistry Day celebrated National Public Health Dentistry Day 2022 on 20th June 2022 with the theme of Innovations, Newer Avenues and expanding the scope of Public Health Dentistry in India. The program was followed by Logo Competition, Distribution of Prize to winners, Unveiling of Logo of the Department and Cake Cutting Ceremony. The occasion was graced and participated by Management Mrs. Smita Mathur, Principal , Dr. KN Dubey, faculty members and students. The objective of the program was to develop information, education and communication material for oral health promotion. Also to educate under-graduate students about the scope of Public Health Dentistry and to increase visibility of this dental specialty which in turn channelizes various strategies to gain public attention towards oral health care.

Rangoli and Inaugural festivities: The day started with adorable decorations in the department along with an ornate rangoli made by the interns posted in the department. The innovative displays and fliers were made for oral health education.

Oral health screening and oral health education in industrial settings, school and community health centres: Lack of awareness concerning oral health is a grave problem in India. Therefore, a comprehensive dental check-up was organized along with imparting dental health education at following places.

Training programme for school teachers.

The events culminated in form of a wonderful interactive live training session on 23 June 2022 at Pragati School by Head of Department, Dr. Ekta Malvania Damani and Dr. Ashish Sharma for around 50 school teachers, consisting of information about potentiality of Public Health Dentistry department, tooth structure and progression of dental caries, cariogenic and cariostatic foods, brushing techniques using 3D model, common oral diseases, it's treatment and prevention. They were further educated to detect any harmful habits or diseases in the students. Furthermore, they were educated regarding importance of regular dental check-ups.

Following the philosophy of the “Art of Giving” initiated by our Founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta and to observed the National IAPHD Day on 19th of June,2022, a free dental screening camp was conducted at Kumardiha, Dhauli, Odisha organised by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University under the supervision of Dr.Gunjan Kumar (faculty), Dr.Kunal Jha (faculty) along with the postgraduates Dr. Samikshya, Dr.Yagnaseni, Dr. Aseema and the interns.

In the beginning screening of patients were done following which a door to door visitation were made all throughout the village to impart oral health education and distribution of free oral hygiene aid samples to the villagers.

The activities targeted to create awareness among the villagers about oral health and hygiene,importance of cessation of paan chewing habit and the oral health status of the patients keeping in mind the motto of Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry to take dental health care to the masses. Referrals were done to the institute as per requirements.

On June 19th 2022, Public Health Dentistry Day was observed by Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bangalore. As a part of this observation all staffs, post graduates, under graduates and interns took active participation. Dental camp was conducted in Nayandahalli, where 223 people were screened and 28 received treatment. Oral health education was given to the public regarding effects of tobacco usage, common diseases of the oral cavity and brushing techniques. Oral health education materials were provided in form of pamphlets and booklets. Chandapura primary health centre was visited by staff, post graduate students and interns on 20th June 2022. A total of 7 were screened and 2 received treatment. Patients were given instructions about good oral hygiene practices and oral health education was provided with various audio visual aids, banners, posters and oral hygiene aids.

  World Athletics Day Top


Center: Department of Public Health Dentistry, Himachal Dental College, Sundarnagar



On the occasion of World Athletics Day, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Himachal Dental College, Sundarnagar, organized a camp at Balika Dekhbhal Sansthan, Sundarnagar in collaboration with ICSA (Institute for Children with Special Abilities) on 7th May 2022. All resident children received oral health education, were screened for potential oral diseases and were provided dental treatment in the aashram cum institute. They were provided a special talk on the importance of physical fitness in the form of sports and athletics in one's life. Apart from the importance of athletics, resident children, their caretakers and guardians were also educated about injuries that can take place while playing along with the successful management of such situations and the need of referral to a dentist as soon as possible.

On a mouth model, toothbrushing and flossing techniques were demonstrated. The importance of mouthwash and its proper use was discussed. Children and their teachers actively participated in the health education programme and children were eager to practise toothbrushing on their own and were motivated to maintain their oral health. A total of 47 children were screened and treatment was provided to 3 children that included hand scalings only.

The team included Dr. Sahil Thakar and Dr. Ramesh Rani as the faculty in charge, with interns Ahaan, Tanya and Shalini and final year: Ayushi, Aryan and Arnav with support personnel Mrs. Draupatti and Mr. Sewak.

  World No Tobacco Day Top


Center: Department of Public Health Dentistry Himachal Dental College, Sundernagar



On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day celebrated every year on 31st May, 2022, the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Himachal Dental College collaborated with IDA, Sundernagar branch to conduct a CDE Programme titled, “Tobacco Cessation for Dental Professionals” on 23rd May 2022. The guest speakers were Dr. Nishant Mehta and Dr. Abhimanyu Rampal who trained students on providing effective tobacco cessation in a dental set-up and help reduce the burden of this epidemic.

To commemorate this special occasion, on 31st May 2022, an awareness rally was organized in which students enthusiastically participated, and exhorted current users to quit the habit through targeted slogans and outlining the benefits of a tobacco free life.

The team of 16 members conducted these programmes, including faculty incharges: Dr. Sahil Thakar and Dr. Ramesh Rani, interns: Ahaan, Suraj, Shalini, Tanya, Anvi, Nisha and final year students: Arnav, Aryan, Ayushi, Tanisha, Nisha and Shivangi. Supporting staff: Mrs. Dropatti (attendant) and Mr. Sevak (driver).

On occasion of world Population Day, department of Public Health Dentistry, Surendera Dental College and Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan conducted general population awareness campaign by placing informative posters in & outside campus and interacted at public transport points- Bus stand, railway station and major city squares. to sensitize the public regarding the issue.

  Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention Month Top

On occasion of Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention Month – July Department of Public Health Dentistry, Surendera Dental College and Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan organized a series of health education for pregnant women and general public at college and satellite centers on every Saturday of whole July 2022 month. Focus was made on raising awareness about and prevention for a congenital condition known as cleft lip and palate. The masses were made aware that a cleft or a craniofacial anomaly is usually not life-threatening and Cn be corrected with simple planned surgery. The information provided by the health educators was very well appreciated by the masses.

  Mega Two Days Outstation Dental Camp Top


Center: Himachal Dental College, Sundernagar



As per the annual tradition, a mega medical camp was organised on 26th and 27th July 2022, at Nagrota Bagwan, District Kangra on the birth anniversary of Late Sh. G.S. Bali Ji. This camp was located 150 kilometres away from the college. The department of Public Health Dentistry, Himachal Dental College provided dental services on both days and screened 200 patients and treated 35 patients in total which included 18 scalings, 8 restorations, 5 extractions and 4 irrigations. Comprehensive health education which included proper brushing techniques, flossing techniques, proper use of mouthwash, tobacco cessation and diet counselling was provided on both days. Two post graduate students from the department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry also attended the camp and provided specialized pediatric care and provided urgent care in the dental van. The team, after an exhausting first day of the camp, visited a nearby temple for blessings and visited the famous Kangra fort on the second day while returning from the camp. The team was provided a comfortable two night stay at the guest house of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda by the organizers.

The team comprised of Dr. Sahil Thakar (Reader), Bazga, Deepali, Namrata, Aman and Agrim from the department of Public Health Dentistry as well as PG students Dr. Sakshi, Dr. Aiman from the department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry. Supporting staff included Mr. Sevak, Mr. Kamal and Mr. Balwant Singh.


  Three Days Onsite Denture Delivery Camp Top

As Himachal Pradesh is a hilly state, villages are usually located at remote areas and at times, it becomes difficult for residents to utilize healthcare services properly. For seniors citizens, it becomes difficult to travel in the winding roads of hills and try to avoid such long duration of travel for the treatment of their dental needs which leaves them with a poor oral health status. Hence, under the “Dant Upchaar, Aapke Dwaar” programme, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Himachal Dental College collaborated with Department of Prosthodontics, Crown and Bridge as well as IDA Sundernagar Branch and organized a three Days Onsite Denture Delivery Camp (11th to 13th July, 2022) for the residents of Apna Ghar, an old age home located at Ghagas, District Bilaspur, approximately 41 kilometres away from the college. In these three days, three complete dentures and four removable partial dentures were delivered on-site, which was the first of its kind in the state of Himachal Pradesh. While team Prosthodontics was busy preparing dentures, team Public Health Dentistry screened all residents and nearby villagers, provided necessary treatment in the dental van and provided health education which included proper brushing techniques, flossing techniques, proper use of mouthwash, tobacco cessation, diet counselling and denture care on both days.

  World No Tobacco Day Top

On occasion of world No Tobacco Day, department of Public Health Dentistry, Surendera Dental College and Research Institute, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan The theme of World No Tobacco Day was “Protect the Environment”. The department conducted general population awareness campaign by placing informative banners and interacted at public transport points- Bus stand, railway station and major city squares. to sensitize the public regarding the ill effects of tobacco on their health as well as on environment. Apart from this a modern art- “Cigarette Butt art” was made with the help of UG students and depicting the current theme.
