Department of Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences at SGT University organized a Faculty Development Programme 'Empowering Teaching Dentists for effective Academic Delivery' on 9th April and 10th April 2018. Eminent Guest speakers for the workshop were, Dr. Medha Anant Joshi, Director, Medical Education Unit, International Medical School, Bengaluru and Dr. K. Pushpanjali, Academic Registrar, Professor and Head, Public Health Dentistry, M.S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru.

Under the tobacco intervention initiative, a tobacco cessation awareness camp was conducted by the department of Public Health Dentistry, PCDS and RC for the patients reporting to be OPD of PCDS and RC. Check up to check for oral lesions, systemic conditions and physical discomfort, assessment of level of dependency, willingness to quit tobacco, assesment of patients requiring NRT and their meeting with pharmacist and distribution of free samples.

The World Environment Day was celebrated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Divya Jyoti College of Dental Sciences and Research at Niwari village, Modinagar on 5th June 2018. The 2018 theme for world environment day will focus on Beat Plastic Pollution and the official slogan for the year is Beat Plastic Pollution. The program included cleanliness in the college premises by collecting plastic wastage related materials so as to make the campus break free of plastic. Making a small contribution towards the environmental protection, the tree plantation was carried out across the college campus. The World Environment Day was a huge success. The audience appreciated the efforts of the participants. The day's event left a deep impact on the mind of the people.

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31st May 2018 in GDCRI, Bangalore. Patients and their attendants were educated and counseled regarding tobacco related diseases and approaches to prevent and control them. Also participants in poster competition conducted by Karnataka Cancer Society. Dr. Rizwan.F. Ahmed, Intern got the 1st prize in poster competition.

“Tobacco Breaks Heart-Initiative” | |  |

Upholding its tradition of raising awareness about community healthcare, Dept. of Public Health Dentistry, Manav Rachna Dental College, Faridabad organized series of events to observe “World No Tobacco Day” on 30th May and 31st May 2018 under the “Tobacco Breaks Heart-initiative” Dept. of Public Health Dentistry conducted the events which included “Tee Shirt Painting”, “Tobacco Detox Platter” “Nukkad Natika” and “World No Tobacco Day- walkathon” in collaboration with ESIC medical college, Faridabad and Lion's Club.

National Public Health Dentistry Day -19th June 2018 | |  |

Department Of Public Health Dentistry, Vinayaka Missions Sankarachariyar Dental College Salem celebrated National Public Health Dentistry Day on 19th June 2018 by giving oral health awareness and by conducting screening camp to students of Sri Vidya Mandir school children from UKG to Xth standard. Total of 1632 students were benefited from the program.

Center - Kalinga Institute Of Dental Sciences, KIIT University (Deemed To Be), Bhubaneswar

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT Deemed to be university, Bhubaneswar in association with NOCPI (National Oral Cancer Prevention Initiative) had organized various activities in relation to World No Tobacco Day on 31st May 2018. A guest lecture was delivered by the Chief Guest Dr. L. Sarangi, Director Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital and Institute, Cuttack and the Guest of Honor Dr. Madhav Nanda Kar, Head of Department of Oncology, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. They also visited the Anti-Tobacco cell in the Department of Public Health Dentistry. A Rally was flagged by Dr. J. Pathi, Assistant Director KIDS and Dr. Brahmananda Dutta, Principal KIDS, shouting Anti-Tobacco slogans and distributing pamphlets among the general public. A screening camp was organized in Padmakesaripur, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar and about 250 individuals were screened. A Flash mob and Nukkad Natak was performed by the Interns at KIIT Square, Patia, Bhubaneswar regarding the various effects of Tobacco.

World Oral Health Day | |  |
Centre: Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere

Department of Public Health Dentistry, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere took the initiative to spread awareness regarding importance of oral health in the community by conducting Oral Health Awareness and Promotion Program at Bilichodu Village, Davangere on 28-03-2018 on the occasion of World Oral Health Day. Oral health education was delivered to the participants at the camp site with the help of Educative Charts, Models, Laptop and Posters. Brushing method was demonstrated using Dentoform model by Dr Usha GV, Reader, Department of Public Health Dentistry. Oral health screening was done for the participants. A total of 30 participants attended the program. Subjects screened were adults in the age range of 18 - 70 years. The most prevalent oral diseases in them were found to be Dental Caries and Periodontitis.

Centre: Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere

To commemorate World Health Day on the 07th April 2018, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere in collaboration with Bapuji Educational Association organized a Walkathon. The Walkathon commenced at 6:30 AM from Maganur Basappa School, Vidhyanagar, Davangere and covered about 5 kms in Davangere city before it reached the destination at Kundwada lake. The participants of the programme were provided with T-Shirts bearing the logo of the College and World health day. Faculty, Postgraduate students, Interns and Undergraduate students from Bapuji Dental College and Hospital participated in the Walkathon. The students held placards with oral health and general health education slogans as they walked through the streets, hence creating health awareness among the public.

Centre: Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere

Department of Public Health Dentistry, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere in collaboration with Community Health Centre, Malebennur, Davanagere, Karnataka and Indian Youth Red Cross Society, took the initiative to spread awareness by conducting a Programme on the ill effects of tobacco at Mallebennur taluk on 31st of May 2018 on the occasion of World No-Tobacco Day. Comprehensive education regarding ill effects of tobacco usage was delivered by the interns in the patient waiting area of CHC, Mallebennur. Focus group discussions using audio visual aids was done. The content of education included ill effects of tobacco usage, oral diseases caused due to use of smokeless and smoking form of tobacco, how smoking can lead to cardiovascular diseases, oral cancer, its early signs and symptoms, also the ill effects of passive smoking. Awareness on the ill effects of tobacco was created among the public with the help of a Socio-drama (mime format) enacted by the interns. The performance was done at two places one at the Bus Stand for general population and another premise was Government Urdu School, Mallebennur for the school going children.

International Yoga Day | |  |

The 4th International Yoga day -2018 (21st June) was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Bapuji Dental College And Hospital, Davangere, under the leadership of Dr DS Mehta, vice principal, Mr. Onkarappa (physical director) and Dr. Sapna.B (Reader, Department Of Public Health Dentistry). The event was inaugurated by Dr. DS Mehta, vice principal, which was followed by addressing the audience on importance of Yoga in human life by Vice Principal and Mr. Suresh (a yoga teacher). A Yoga session was conducted by experts, Mr. Jayanna and Miss. Chaitra of Sri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi, Davangere. The program was attended by teaching staff, students, non teaching faculty and administrative staff of the college. Yoga practice session started at 6 am and progressed as per the protocol provided by Government of India. Later one of the yoga expert delivered fruitful information to the audience regarding the wellness of Yoga by instructing all to practice Yoga regularly to boost mental and physical health and also to improve the overall well-being.
