Overall general health of human beings is quite influenced by oral Health. Or we could simply say that having bad oral health puts us at a high risk of developing other health problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease and pre-term low birth weight infants. The aim of the present article is to present a review of the current literature available. Current available data shows mixed observations, suggesting though some relationship exists between periodontal disease and various systemic diseases, yet periodontal therapy in such patients does not necessarily reduce the occurrence or progression of these diseases. Therefore, further research in this field is warranted for better understanding of these issues, which could be put in use to open new avenues for prevention of these diseases.
